Time of Recollection

About sin.

The most important part of each one of us is precious, unique and eternal soul, soul that will never die. On this belief we can built up the whole spiritual life. Inevitably, whenever we consider the soul's worst dangers, we always end up with mortal sin: "He that shall sin against me, shall hurt his own soul" (Proverbs 8:36). Mortal sin is illogical, paradoxical nonsense,
because we hurt ourselves out of our own choice, robbing the soul of the most precious gem, inner peace of heart: "There is no peace to the wicked, saith the Lord" (Isaiah 48:22). No doubt about it, inner peace IS our biggest treasure. Since the beginning of the world, mortal sin brought every misery, it is enough to think of our first parents fall, flood, Sodom and Gomorrah, ruined Jerusalem, wars, famines hunger, earthquakes, modern day cataclysms: "Sin maketh nations miserable" (Proverbs 14:34). We see so many broken, unhappy families nowadays - could their suffering be due to excess of premarital sins? It is true mortal sin most seriously affects the soul: "On the path of justice is life; but the by-way leadeth to death" (Proverbs 12:28). It separates us from God and His grace and the Lord Himself speaks to the soul wounded by sin: "Thou hast the name of being alive, and thou are dead." (Apocalypse 3:1). Therefore in God's eyes, man in mortal sin is like a dead-man walking, and this happens out of our own choices - the worse nonsense of sin. However, it is also our own choice to get rid off all that lead to mortal sin. It does not matter what it is - bad passion, lecture, friendship, relations: "For what things a man shall sow, those also shall he reap. For he that soweth in his flesh, of the flesh also shall reap corruption. But he that soweth in the spirit, of the spirit shall reap life everlasting". (Galatians 6:8).
